£10 BOX MOD

Its not everyday that fasttech fuck up a price. In fact to my knowledge this is the only time they have priced up an item at lower than they meant to. Still forever the cheapskate it did allow me an impulse purchase and I am now the proud possessor of a Phimis Variable Wattage VW Mechanical Mod. Sod knows where the mechanical part comes into it as this is a fully regulated device and will happily hit and stay at 50 watts without the mod having a diva meltdown and shutting itself off with complaints that its too hot after three lungfuls of cloudage.

To say this is a cracking little mod is an understatement. Full wood casing with copper contacts and a chip that actually seems to work with chain vaping at high watts. I have no idea what the wood is and although a little rough (but then so is bob and I like bob) the grain pattern is lovely to look at and makes a refreshing change from the sterile plastic and metal I’m used to. There is no pass through here like with my previous DNA 50 clone but fortunately there is ease of access via a sliding panel held in place with magnets for an easy battery change. I have no idea what chip this particular mod contains although a clue is given by pressing the + and fire button and the LCD display tells me that touch has been activated. Now I know very well that this mod doesn’t have a touch pad but the ipv or ivp or whateverfuckingwayround that acronym goes does. I have also heard from those nerds in the know that spend way to much time giving a shit about electrical circuits that it may well be a yihi chip (again better to ask them than me). All I know is it fires right and it doesn’t shut off halfway through a vaping session.

So far so good but are there any downsides? Unfortunately there are a few the first is that the 510 connector is not fully recessed so any atomizer you choose to fit on the mod is never going to sit flush no matter what you do with it. That in itself could drive some vapers insane. The lcd display cover (that little clear plastic thing that sits on top) doesn’t sit completely flush either and you can see a gap between it and the wooden surround (again a cosmetic issue that you can live with that doesn’t affect the performance) then there’s the wood itself while lovely to look at could well use a fine sand and coat of varnish or lacquer to bring out its inner beauty. One of the main problems iv come across early on is with the adjustable 510 though. Once you have adjusted the centre screw to connect to your atomiser so the mod registers it things are fine and dandy. However the moment you unscrew your atomiser the centre pin seems to want to unscrew itself as well and come away with the atty. Meaning on more than a few occasions I have needed to readjust a loose centre pin each time I unscrew my atty to refill it.

All those problems aside though what I am left with is a competent well performing and decent looking wooden box mod that surpasses my dna 50 mod in almost every way. What issues it has itself are less of a problem than my previous mod. When you add that to the fact that with tracked postage the total cost of this mod hit me for ten pence under eleven quid delivered........well come on it would have had to have been dead on arrival for it to even begin to have been not worth my money.

Although I was one of the fortunate few to have received this mod before fasttech realised one of their team had made a pricing error and marched him round the back where they blindfolded him and put a bullet between his eyes (and rightly so) I would still consider the revised price of 25 pounds delivered to be a cracking deal for a mod that is superior in performance to one I purchased previously for 30.

Definitely one to consider if your tired of an endless stream of metal and plastic.
